Hello BS,
I was talking to my GP once and he said he thought there were aprox 36 dif types/mixes of insulin's.
If you do a google search you would prob find many dif types. Most of the lists do tend to leave the natural(pork and bovine) insulin's out though.

Types of insulin
-----------------------
There are many types of insulin from which to choose. It takes different kinds to match what the body would make if it could. That's because normal insulin goes up and down throughout the day. Your blood sugar levels are lower between meals and higher after meals. One or more of these types might be used to match this pattern:

* Mealtime Insulins — Mealtime insulins include rapid-acting and short-acting insulins. Rapid-acting insulins start very quickly and work for the shortest time. Short-acting insulins start slower and work longer than the rapid-acting insulins. Short-acting insulins may not meet the mealtime needs as well as rapid-acting insulins.
* Basal Insulins — Basal insulins include intermediate-acting and long-acting insulins. These insulins work over time to help keep your blood sugar stable between meals and overnight. They start more slowly and last longer than mealtime insulin.

How does insulin work?
------------------------------------
Your pancreas makes insulin to help lower your blood sugar. The sugar in your blood comes from your food. When you eat, the food is broken down into sugars and enters your bloodstream. Insulin acts like a key to "unlock" the body's cells and allow sugar to pass from the bloodstream into the cells. Your cells then use the sugar for fuel, much like a car uses gas. Without enough insulin, sugar can build up in your bloodstream. High blood sugar levels can damage your blood vessels and cause serious [url=http://www.mamaherb.com:24aoxi33]conditions[/url:24aoxi33] over a long period of time.

There are basically four types of insulin. They are classified on the basis of their reaction time the time it takes for them to lower the level of blood glucose and the duration of their stay in the body. The four types of insulin are: rapid-acting, short-acting, intermediate and long-acting. The four types are mixed in varying proportions and a premixed combination of insulin is used.

Insulin is labeled "U-100," which means there are 100 units of insulin per milliliter of fluid in the vial. Some insulin is also offered in U-500 strength. This form of insulin is only for people with marked insulin challenge who take doses of more than 200 units per day.

There are many types of system insulin shots from which to choose. It takes different types to go with what the body would make if it could. That's because regular system insulin shots goes up and down throughout the day. Your glucose levels are reduced between foods and higher after foods.
